Recommendation to take the State Journeyman Exam

XIII. RECOMMENDATION TO TAKE THE STATE JOURNEYMAN EXAM

  1. State Journeyman test recommendations will not be made until the apprentice has attained a passing grade in related training classes and has completed the needed hours in the fields of training.
  2. Apprentices may only take the Journeyman examination upon the referral of the Committee.
  3. After being recommended to take the Journeyman exam, the apprentice has six months to take the exam. If the apprentice has not taken the exam within the six-month period, he/she will be cited to appear before the committee to explain the circumstances for the delay.
  4. After the six month period, if the apprentice has failed (the Journeyman exam twice) the apprentice will be required to take a code class before the next try. If an apprentice fails on his third try, he/she will be required to retake, and pass, the 4th year classes or courses, as recommended by the Committee with a 70% or better grade before being re-recommended to take the Journeyman exam. If an apprentice fails a fourth time, the committee will issue a certificate of completion, removing him/her from the apprenticeship program. He/she may still apply with the State of Oregon to re-take the exam, but will no longer be able to work in the trade until passing the exam and receiving his/her Journeyman license.
