Employment Policy

II Employment Policy

  1. The Area III Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC) and it’s Approved Training Agents shall:
  2. "Provide equal opportunity in the recruitment, selection, employment, and training of apprentices without regards to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, marital status, or age (where the individual is 18 or older) in accordance with 29 CFR part 30".

"Uniformly apply rules and regulations concerning, but not limited to, equality of wages, periodic advancement, rotation among all work processes of the trade/occupation, assignment of work, imposition of penalties or other disciplinary matters and all other aspects of the administration of an apprenticeship program to all apprentices during their apprenticeship.

  3. It is the responsibility of the training agent to endeavor and to maintain consistent employment for the apprentice. If the apprentice is laid-off/terminated or ends employment, the apprentice and the training agent must notify the Coordinator’s office immediately. The apprentice will then be put on the "Out-of-Work" list.
  4. When the apprentice accepts employment with another employer the apprentice must contact the coordinator’s office so the coordinator can determine whether the employer is an Approved Training Agent, is within ratio requirements and take the apprentice off the "Out-of-Work" list.
  5. The apprentice shall be held responsible if he/she is not working for an approved training agent. "On-the-job-training" (OJT) hours accumulated during employment by a non-training agent will Not be counted toward completion of his/her apprenticeship.
  6. A licensed General Journeyman Electrician must directly supervise an apprentice on the job. YOU MUST NEVER WORK ALONE. The only exception to this policy is apprentices possessing a 6500 hour or "Limited Supervision" Card. Details regarding this card are found in this handbook.
  7. Any apprentice found working in violation of the Licensing Law will be cited to appear before the committee for disciplinary action up to and including termination of his/her apprenticeship agreement.
